Duvall, though best known for his screen work, began his acting career on stage and appeared in productions such as “A View from the Bridge.” After that, he got his start playing bit parts in Hollywood. Per IMDb, his first was the 1960s series “The Robert Herridge Theater,” in which he appeared in a single episode.

From there, he appeared in tv shows and movies such as “Armstrong Circle Theatre,” “Playhouse 90,” “John Brown’s Raid,” and

“Great Ghost Tales.” However, his big break didn’t come until 1962, when he played Boo Radley in “To Kill a Mockingbird.” After that, Duvall continued, later encountering the roles that would make him a star.

Some of the most notable include “The Godfather,” “Apocalypse Now,” “Lonesome Dove,” “Something to Talk About,” and “Gone in 60 Seconds.”

Sighings from Duvall became increasingly rare in later years of his life. This is despite him remaining somewhat active in Hollywood, with his most recent television appearance being in “The Culture Mafia” in 2026. Still, according to Page Six, the beloved actor took to social media in November 2025 to wish his fans a happy holiday.

He said in a clip, “To all my fans, have a happy, happy Thanksgiving and a great year coming up. God bless.” Duvall could be seen sitting in the video. He wore what appeared to be a purple polo-style shirt, a black vest, and black pants.
