Philadelphia Eagles fans have blamed offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo and/or head coach Nick Sirianni for the club’s 23-19 wild-card playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers this past Sunday.
During a Monday evening appearance on ESPN, Eagles legend and current NFL analyst Jason Kelce went in a different direction while speaking about Philadelphia’s latest defeat.
Jason Kelce blames Eagles players for loss to 49ers
“I know that everybody is out on Kevin Patullo,” Kelce said, per Eva Geitheim of Sports Illustrated. “I happen to know the guy. I love Kevin Patullo. I know he’s a great coach. I know it wasn’t the best performance this year offensively. They had the No. 1 highest-paid offense in the league and were mediocre across the board. That’s unacceptable. They had their chances to win that game [Sunday], and they — the players —didn’t make the plays.”
Patullo was often a target of criticism as the Eagles’ offense failed to impress throughout the season. That said, he wasn’t responsible for wide receiver A.J. Brown dropping catchable passes versus San Francisco. Patullo also can’t be blamed for some questionable decisions made by Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts during the contest.
