Amid trade speculation, Minnesota Twins pitcher Joe Ryan had an historically poor start in a 13-4 loss to the Cleveland Guardians.

On Monday, Ryan set a personal and Twins franchise record by allowing six home runs. Per Stathead research, he became just the 11th starting pitcher of the live ball era (since 1920) to hit that mark in a single game.

Ryan was pulled after four innings, allowing eight earned runs on 10 total hits with three strikeouts in 78 pitches. After entering the day with a 2.85 earned run average in 20 starts, Ryan’s ERA jumped to 3.38 following the defeat.

With the trade deadline only weeks away on Aug. 3, the 2026 All-Star’s rough outing couldn’t have come at a worse time for Minnesota.
