Starmer Takes Responsibility for Big Losses in Early U.K. Election Results

Prime Minister Keir Starmer of Britain said he took responsibility for large Labour Party losses as local election results trickled in early Friday. The right-wing populist Reform U.K. party looked set for big gains.

“Let me be clear, these are really tough results. I’m not going to sugarcoat it. And we have lost brilliant Labour representatives. No, I’m not going to walk away and plunge the country into chaos. We were elected to deal with these challenges and that’s what we will do.” “I would honestly say you’re witnessing an historic shift in British politics. This is now the most national of all parties. We’re competitive in every part of the country and we’re here to stay.”
