“About a week into the war, I heard an interview with a Palestinian mother crying and talking about her daughter: ‘She was a new bride,’ she said. ‘We haven’t even returned her wedding dress.’ Her words drove me to paint a young woman in a bluish-gray gown — she’s from the world of the departed — wedged between a group of women. We are living through history. As artists, we have to make images for the world to show that we have feelings. We have ideas. We have kids. We exist.”

Raghda Zaiton is an artist living in Nablus, West Bank. | “Forgotten Souls,” rightbottom, acrylic on canvas, 2024; “Dim Light,” lefttop, ink and acrylic on paper, 2024.
