On Friday, December 27, the Oscar-winning actor announced the launch of his new weekly newsletter, “Lyrics of Livin’.” Described as “a collection of thought-provoking notes, tips, truths, and inspirations he’s gathered over decades of life,” the newsletter promises readers a glimpse into McConaughey’s reflections on life, growth, and personal philosophy.

In addition to the written content, Matthew McConaughey will personally narrate each edition, offering an audio version for fans who prefer to listen to his signature drawl deliver the wisdom.

Set to launch on Friday, January 3, “Lyrics of Livin’” will deliver new installments to subscribers’ inboxes every Friday—for free.

“I’ve journaled and scribbled down good times, bad times, turn-offs and turn-ons for more than four decades now, and as you may know, many of those journal entries were what inspired my book Greenlights,” McConaughey, who released his bestselling memoir in 2020, shared.

“Which got me thinking, what if I didn’t wait 40 more years to share my thoughts, prescribes, tips, truths and inspirations: Things I’ve seen, said, stole and heard along my way that can help us find more Greenlights in our life and put a little rhyme to our reason,” the actor continued.

For those wondering what to expect with this new project, McConaughey explained, “Think of it as five minutes with McConaughey as you end your week and head into your weekend. You can read it yourself or listen to me read it for you. It’s yours if you want it, easy.”

McConaughey explained that he chose to launch the weekly newsletter on Friday afternoons because, to him, Fridays “always been my favorite day of the week.”

“A true parlay day, the first half of Friday’s about responsibility and WORK, and the second half is about freedom and PLAY — and Friday also comes with a 48-hour runway — before we get back to Monday,” he said.

This won’t be the first time the actor lets down his walls and allows fans to see a different side of him.

In 2020, Matthew McConaughey released his memoir, “Greenlights,” a book that defies the conventions of a typical celebrity tell-all. Rather than focusing solely on fame and Hollywood gossip, Greenlights offers a raw, introspective look at McConaughey’s life, filled with personal anecdotes, life lessons, and philosophical reflections that have shaped his journey.

“Yes, I tell stories from the past, but I have no interest in nostalgia, sentimentality, or the retirement most memoirs require,” he wrote in his memoir. “This is not an advice book, either. Although I like preachers, I’m not here to preach and tell you what to do.”

“This is an approach book. I am here to share stories, insights, and philosophies that can be objectively understood, and if you choose, subjectively adopted, by either changing your reality, or changing how you see it,” he continued. “This is a playbook, based on adventures in my life. Adventures that have been significant, enlightening, and funny, sometimes because they were meant to be but mostly because they didn’t try to be.”

One of the biggest stories from his memoir is when he opened up about the first time he had sex.

“I was blackmailed into having sex for the first time when I was fifteen. I was certain I was going to hell for the premarital sex. Today, I am merely certain that I hope that’s not the case,” he said in the book. “I was molested by a man when I was eighteen while knocked unconscious in the back of a van.”

Neither story is revisited or expanded upon elsewhere in the book. However, toward the end of his reflections, Matthew McConaughey makes a poignant note, stating, “I’ve never felt like a victim.”

Matthew McConaughey recently joined tennis star Nick Kyrgios for a preview episode of the athlete’s upcoming podcast, Good Trouble with Nick Kyrgios, which aired today, Wednesday, November 20.

“Look, man, the devil’s in the infinite yeses, not the nos,” McConaughey said, per People Magazine. “No, it’s just as important, if not more important. Especially if you have some level of success and access. No becomes more important than yes.”

“I mean, we all look around and see we’ve overleveraged our life with yeses and go, ‘Geez, oh, man, I’m making C minuses and all that sh-t in my life because I said yes to too many things,'” he continued. “I have many times in my life where I’m going through autopilot.”
