John Schneider is opening up about his long-running legal battle with ex-wife Elvira Castle, more than a decade after their separation.

The “Dukes of Hazzard” star recently addressed the dispute during an appearance in Washington, D.C., where he questioned the expectation of continued financial support after divorce.

John Schneider’s remarks come after Elvira Castle sought for more than $2.3 million in alleged unpaid spousal support and interest.

More than a decade after his marriage ended, John Schneider is still entangled in a legal battle with ex-wife Castle, and the dispute remains far from resolved.

The “Dukes of Hazzard” actor recently addressed the ongoing case during an appearance in Washington, D.C., where he performed as part of events commemorating America’s upcoming 250th anniversary.

Speaking candidly about the situation, John questioned why a former spouse would expect continued financial support years after a relationship has ended.

According to John, he struggles to understand the reasoning behind maintaining financial ties once a marriage has been dissolved.

“I don’t understand why someone would feel that… someone that they threw away, right?…” he said, per Fox News Digital. “If you throw somebody away, why would you expect them to continue to be part of your life in any regard, let alone financially? I don’t understand where the integrity is in that.”

While expressing frustration over the lengthy dispute, John stressed that he hopes a resolution is within reach. “We’re working it out,” he said, before reflecting on how long the case has dragged on.

Despite the years-long dispute, John remained hopeful that the matter would eventually be resolved.

“It’s a shame when people who were together then turn into this. And it’s been a long time,” he said. “I mean, this divorce… She filed for divorce in 2014. My God, that’s been 12 years. So, I don’t understand it, but you know, cooler heads will prevail, and we’ll get through it.”

His comments come shortly after court filings revealed that Castle is seeking more than $2.3 million in alleged unpaid spousal support and accumulated interest. Legal documents reportedly claim the amount includes years of unpaid obligations, with interest continuing to increase the total.

The filing also requests access to portions of Schneider’s Screen Actors Guild pension and Social Security benefits if the outstanding amount cannot be paid directly.

Schneider, however, disputes the figures. Court records indicate that his legal team argues the calculations are inaccurate and that supporting evidence for the claimed amount has not been properly provided.

The former couple married in 1993 before separating more than two decades later. Castle filed for divorce in 2014, and the proceedings were finalized in 2019.

The legal battle between Schneider and Castle intensified years after their August 2019 settlement, which originally granted her $25,000 in monthly spousal support.

Now, determined to recover the unpaid funds, Castle turned to the courts recently to demand a cut of the actor’s Screen Actors Guild pension.

According to reports, if those funds fall short, she has requested that his Social Security payments be used to satisfy the alleged debt.

Together, the pair raised four children, including their biological daughter Karis, as well as Castle’s children from a previous marriage, Chasen, Mandy, and Leah.

In his recent chat with Fox News Digital, Schneider also shared his thoughts on relationships and marriage, praising his wife, Dee Dee Sorvino.

He emphasized the importance of partnership, mutual support, and making a conscious effort to prioritize one another in a healthy relationship.

“A relationship is something that has to… It’s two-sided. There are two people involved, and there are two sets of responsibilities,” he explained.

The actor continued, “And your thought, again, like trying to make somebody else’s day better, certainly the first person that you want to make their day better should be your partner.”

Away from the legal dispute, Schneider has been focused on his career and personal life. During his visit to Washington, he reflected on the significance of performing at an event tied to America’s 250th anniversary, describing the invitation as a meaningful honor.

The actor recalled celebrating the nation’s Bicentennial in 1976 as a teenager during a school trip to Disney World. Looking back, he said participating in another major milestone nearly 50 years later feels surreal and deeply meaningful.

“So now, to be part of something else 50 years later, I can’t believe that, but it’s true … the 250th birthday. And I’m proud of our country, and I’m proud of everything that’s going on right now. I know it’s a little dicey for some, but you know, I believe in peace through strength, and that’s what we’re involved in right now,” he said.
