Writer and comedian Colin Jost used humor to address the recent box-office rankings during the Weekend Update on “Saturday Night Live.” According to reports, Jost’s wife, Scarlett Johansson, has been dethroned from the No. 1 spot by Zoe Saldaña with $15.5 billion in box office revenue.

On the “Weekend Update” segment of the January 17 episode of “Saturday Night Live,” Jost read a headline about Saldaña surpassing his wife’s box office record.

A graph appeared showing the two actresses’ rankings, with Saldaña earning $15.5 billion in revenue compared to Johansson’s $15.1 billion. “Well, let’s see what happens when you include the box office from Scarlett’s husband’s movies,” Jost joked.

His idea backfired, as his wife’s $15.4 billion went down to $15.1 billion when his numbers were added.

All the comedian could do was exclaim, “It went down?” while laughing. This reaction showed that Jost doesn’t take it too seriously and is comfortable poking fun at his wife and himself.

While Jost is successful in his own right, Johansson’s career has reached a level of global recognition that few celebrities can dream of achieving.

She has appeared in multiple “Avengers” movies since 2012, as well as other box office hits, including the “Guardians of the Galaxy” franchise. Meanwhile, Jost has also appeared in a few movies, such as “Coming 2 America,” “Fly Me to the Moon,” and “Bad Guys 2.”

Jost isn’t intimidated by his wife’s big achievements, often praising her in interviews. In a July 2025 interview with Entertainment Tonight, he was asked what he had to say about his wife’s box office success.

The comedian jokingly said that he and Johansson were “one of the top couples at the box office,” adding, “She’s probably doing a little more of that lifting, but combined, you know what I mean? That could be a huge record, too. I basically only do No. 1 movies.”

Being a cast member on “SNL,” it isn’t surprising that Jost’s wife has been made fun of on the show.

In yet another “Weekend Update” segment, this time in December 2024, Jost was forced to read a joke written by his co-star Michael Che about his wife’s lady parts, comparing them to a roast beef sandwich, and it happened while Johansson was watching backstage.

As the actress revealed in an interview with InStyle, she knew that there was going to be a joke about her, but was surprised at how vulgar it was.

“I just can’t believe that they went there. I was like — it was so gross. It was really gross.” Despite being shocked, she took it in stride and found it funny.

Jost and Johansson first met on the set of “SNL” in 2006, when the actress was a guest host.

The comedian vividly recalled their meeting in his memoir, “A Very Punchable Face,” where he described his wife as “a beautiful, smart, sweet, and intimidatingly sophisticated woman.”

However, they didn’t start dating until 2017. Johansson was married to Ryan Reynolds from 2008 to 2011, and to Romain Dauriac from 2014 to 2017. Jost and Johansson married in 2020 in a small ceremony at their home in New York.

“I think just keeping it intimate and small made it feel intentional,” Johansson told People Magazine.

The couple keeps their personal life private, but both have spoken fondly of each other in interviews.

In an appearance on “Live with Kelly and Mark” in 2024, Johansson said she was “extremely lucky” to be married to a “very, very, very great guy,” whom she described as kind, thoughtful, hilarious, and loving, adding, “But he’s also got his naughty side. He keeps it interesting.”

Jost, in a rare serious moment with The New York Times, said, “I think part of the reason I fell in love with her is she’s a great mom.” The two share a son, Cosmo, while Johansson also has a daughter with her ex-husband, Dauriac.

Despite their busy careers in the limelight, Jost and Johansson manage to maintain support for one another while pursuing their own careers, showing that their partnership is built on mutual respect and love.
