Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes say friendship and humor are the foundation of their relationship, sharing during a new interview that laughing together keeps them strong.

The engaged former GMA co-hosts, who went public in 2022 and announced their engagement on their podcast, are now planning a 2026 destination wedding.

Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes hope for a small, intimate ceremony with 50 to 100 guests and are considering locations such as Paris, Tulum, or Turks and Caicos.

During an interview with People Magazine at iHeartRadio’s Jingle Ball 2025 on December 12, Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes opened up about what’s kept their relationship strong.

The former “Good Morning America” co-anchors, who got engaged in September and confirmed the news publicly weeks later, agreed that friendship sits at the heart of their bond.

“Friendship, the foundation of friendship, period, point blank,” Holmes, 48, explained, as Robach, 52, quickly agreed, adding: “Without a doubt.”

Holmes continued, “If you got a friend you love and you respect … you end up in a relationship that’s still the foundation of friendship.”

Robach expanded on the idea, noting that humor plays a major role.

“If you can laugh with someone, you can live a long time with someone. You can get through almost anything if you can laugh together,” she said. Holmes playfully chimed in to echo the sentiment with a laugh of his own.

The evening doubled as a family affair, with the couple posing on the red carpet alongside their children.

Holmes attended with his daughter, Sabine, 12, whom he shares with his ex-wife, Marilee Fiebig, while Robach was joined by her daughters, Annalise, 19, and Ava, 22, from her previous marriage to Andrew Shue.

Looking ahead to the holidays, Holmes shared that the couple plans to spend Christmas in New York with their daughters before heading off on a warm-weather escape.

“We get to do our perfect Christmas this year,” he said. Robach added with a smile, “It’s T.J. and his ladies.”

Amy Robach And T.J. Holmes Are Ready For Their Next Chapter

Robach and Holmes first sparked dating rumors in November 2022, a relationship that quickly made headlines due to the fact that both were married at the time: Robach to actor Andrew Shue and Holmes to attorney Marilee Fiebig.

However, a source previously told People that there was no overlap between their romance and their respective marriages.

Following their divorces and the public confirmation of their relationship, the former “GMA3” co-anchors continued to hit major milestones together, including moving in together and building a shared life.

They’re now preparing for their next chapter: marriage. Earlier in the fall, the couple revealed their engagement during an episode of their podcast, “Amy & T.J.”

The episode, titled “Robach-Holmes,” was a nod to their future shared last name.

“We are sharing with all of you that we are engaged and we’ve been engaged for just about a month now,” Robach told listeners.

Holmes then added that they wanted to share the news directly with their audience first, noting they had learned from past experiences to control how their relationship milestones are announced.

The Couple Debates Guests Having Plus-Ones At Their Upcoming Wedding

While Holmes and Robach appear aligned on most things, the lovebirds admit they don’t see eye to eye on every wedding detail, particularly when it comes to the guest list.

During a recent “Ask Amy & T.J.” segment with Yahoo News, the couple debated whether guests should be allowed to bring plus-ones whom the pair hasn’t met.

Holmes didn’t mince words, saying he sees no reason to include anyone he’d need to be introduced to on his wedding day.

Robach questioned whether that meant banning plus-ones entirely, but Holmes stood firm. “Why would I invite anybody for the sake of their feelings on my wedding day?” he asked.

Robach, however, saw it differently, saying she believes close friends should be allowed to bring partners even if the couple hasn’t met them yet, so they can fully enjoy the celebration.

Holmes maintained that unfamiliar plus-ones could quickly balloon the guest list, prompting Robach to laugh off the concern, suggesting that flexibility matters when it comes to loved ones.

Looking ahead to the big day, a source told Us Weekly that the couple is already mapping out what they want their wedding to look like as they plan to tie the knot in 2026.

According to a source close to the couple, the pair is leaning toward a destination wedding “because they don’t want a media frenzy.”

The insider told the news outlet that Robach and Holmes are hoping for a cozy celebration, and “they want it to be small and intimate and only want 50 to 100 guests at the most.”

Several locations are reportedly on their radar, including Turks and Caicos, Paris, and Tulum. While June 2026 has been discussed as a possible timeframe, the source notes that no final decisions have been made yet.

Beyond choosing a location, Robach has also been thinking ahead to the more personal details of the day.

The insider said she envisions a wedding dress that’s “simple and elegant,” avoiding anything overly extravagant. She’s also hoping to include their children in the ceremony, with her kids walking her down the aisle and Holmes’ children doing the same for him.
