Conor McGregor issues statement after getting hurt seconds into his fight

Conor McGregor reacted after his UFC comeback on Saturday lasted barely a minute before he suffered an injury.

McGregor seemingly blew out his knee on an attempted high kick just 69 seconds into his first UFC fight in five years. The 37-year-old’s attempts to continue were futile, and the fight was quickly stopped.

On X after the fight, McGregor posted that he had no injuries coming into the fight, and that his leg issue “came out of nowhere.”

“My head gasket is gone. Destroyed,” McGregor wrote. “I had no injury / injuries going into the fight. I was throwing kicks, planted and jumping, all throughout camp as well as backstage before the fight. This came out of nowhere. I am beyond dark here. I can only describe it as hell.”

McGregor appears to be defending himself against claims that he was already hurt coming into the fight and showed up just to ensure that he would get paid. There is no evidence of that, but some social media conspiracy theories quickly jumped on that argument after the fight was stopped.

Holloway seemingly found the whole incident pretty amusing, but McGregor does not. Realistically, that might have been the end of his career for good.
