Scottie Scheffler shockingly misses the cut for the first time in 1,428 days

Scottie Scheffler shot a 2-over 72 in the second round of the Genesis Scottish Open to fall back to even par, putting him in a tie for 87th place with more than half the field yet to post. Considering only the top 65 players (and ties) move on to play the weekend, the World No. 1 will miss the cut for the first time in nearly four years.

Heading into the week, Scheffler had made the cut in 78 consecutive starts dating back to the 2022 BMW Championship. His last missed cut came the week before at the FedEx St. Jude Invitational, which was 1,428 days ago.

Since then, Scheffler has more than double the number of wins (19) than he has finishes outside the top 20 (eight). Throughout this consistently dominant stretch of golf, it’s been easy to forget that Scheffler is still human. His performance at The Renaissance Club finally reminded us of that.

Scheffler will undoubtedly start a new streak and be fine in the long run, but some alarm bells are going off with the Open Championship just a few days away.
