Cam Skattebo makes promise about playing style following injury

    New York Giants
running back and 2025 rookie Cam Skattebo spent the offseason recovering from the gruesome dislocation of his right ankle that he suffered on Oct. 26, 2025.

It’s far too early to know what Skattebo will and/or won’t be coming off that setback. However, he insisted during a Wednesday appearance on NFL Network’s “The Insiders” program that he plans to leave everything out on the field whenever he plays.

Cam Skattebo will not change after devastating injury

“It ain’t gonna change who I am,” Skattebo said about the injury, per Bobby Kownack of the NFL’s website. “I had an injury, you know, it is what it is. I’ve still got plenty of football left, plenty of life left. I’m not going to let this little ankle thing bother me. I’m going to get back [to] running people over, like you see on the videos. It’s going to be normal Cam Skattebo from here on out.”

Skattebo received advice from San Francisco 49ers linebacker Fred Warner regarding how to recover from such a serious leg injury. The fan-favorite ball-carrier has targeted a 2026 Week 1 return for months, and it seems to outsiders that he is on track to play when the Giants open the season with a “Sunday Night Football” home game versus the rival Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 13.

Cam Skattebo trusts John Harbaugh, Giants amid ongoing recovery

Of course, Skattebo will have additional boxes to check from the start of training camp in late July through the end of the preseason before head coach John Harbaugh begins preparing for the Dallas game. That said, Skattebo sounds confident that he once again will have a major role in the Big Blue offense this coming fall.

“Coach Harbaugh and [offensive coordinator Matt Nagy], I’ve felt nothing but support and love from them,” Skattebo added. “They’re always on me about getting back, and they’re starting to see where I’m at in my process, and they’re starting to trust it. They’ve been really good to me. I trust both of those two, as [well] as everybody else on the staff. It’s been nothing but joy and happiness for me, just starting to fall back in love with the game after an injury for sure.”
