Steve Kerr has interesting comments on Draymond Green rumors

Steve Kerr did not shy away from the rumblings that the Golden State Warriors could trade Draymond Green.

Green has been the subject of trade rumors over the past week, with a report from ESPN’s Anthony Slater published Tuesday indicating that the Warriors star was part of the framework for any deal to acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo. Previous reports noted that the Warriors had been reluctant to include Green in such a move.

Kerr added fuel to the rumors, virtually confirming that Green’s name was being discussed in trade talks, which he claims has never happened since he became head coach over a decade ago.

“This is probably the first time, I would say, since I’ve been here that his name has ever really been mentioned in trade talks,” Kerr told reporters. “So it’s different. But it’s also part of the league. It’s part of almost every player’s journey in this league.”

With the Warriors’ dynasty on its last legs, Kerr has been especially candid this season. Kerr himself has been the subject of rumors hinting that Golden State could move on from him at season’s end.

Kerr, whom the Warriors may also be souring on, also reportedly had a conversation with Green on Monday about the All-Star’s uncertain future in Golden State. Draymond himself shrugged off the rumors last week, stating that it’s “part of the business” if the Warriors do ultimately trade him.

According to Kerr, the Warriors’ front office takes his input on trade decisions, but he ultimately has no say in the team’s roster construction.

The Warriors have some competition when it comes to landing Giannis. A surprising Eastern Conference team has recently emerged as one of the favorites to land the Greek Freak before the trade deadline. A recent string of trade activity also has some fans believing Antetokounmpo is heading West to a team other than the Warriors.
