One inning was all the New York Yankees needed to beat the Athletics on Sunday. In their 13-8 victory, one that clinched the weekend series, New York scored all 13 of their runs in an epic third inning.
To set the scene, the Yankees entered their historic, and almost franchise record-setting, monster inning trailing 3-0. New York’s lineup then exploded for an inning that came one run shy of matching a performance no Yankees team has duplicated in over 100 years.
The Yankees’ 13-run inning fell a single run shy of tying the most runs ever scored in an inning by any Yankees team ever. That honor still belongs to the 1920 team, which scored 14 runs, mostly benefiting from defensive errors, against the Washington Senators on July 6 of that year.
As for how Aaron Judge and the 2026 Yankees managed to score 13 runs in an inning, they did it surprisingly — without any home runs.
The Yankees put up 13 runs off 11 hits via 18 plate appearances, which also led to four walks and four stolen bases.
