Slammin’ Sammy Sosa has returned to Wrigley Field.
After a 21-year rift following his exit from the team in 2004, one of the most beloved players in Chicago Cubs history is finally back on good terms with the team he rose to fame with. Sosa will always be remembered for his historic 1998 home run chase with Mark McGwire as the pair chased (and eventually broke) Roger Maris’ record of 61 dingers in a single season. While McGwire beat Sosa 70 home runs to 66, the pair were massive in rejuvenating interest in baseball that had been waning after the 1994 strike that cancelled the season. He’ll unfortunately also always be remembered for playing during the infamous “Steroid Era,” and appearing on a list of players alleged to have taken performance enhancing drugs during his career.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. Sosa finished his MLB career with seven All-Star selections, six Silver Slugger awards and was named 1998 MVP despite losing the home run battle to McGwire. With that being said, how many of the players to hit the most home runs in one season for each MLB franchise can you name in five minutes?
Good luck!
