Taylor Swift is reportedly keeping her distance after private text messages with longtime friend Blake Lively were partially unsealed in court.

The texts were revealed as part of the actress’s ongoing legal battle with her “It Ends With Us” co-star and director, Justin Baldoni.

A source says the disclosure left the singer unsettled, as messages meant to be private became public. While Taylor Swift was only supporting a friend, the situation has drawn her into a high-profile lawsuit.

Swift is keeping her distance after private messages she exchanged with longtime friend Blake Lively surfaced in recently unsealed court documents, a source tells People Magazine.

The texts were partially unsealed on Tuesday, January 20, amid Lively’s ongoing legal battle with “It Ends With Us” co-star and director Justin Baldoni and his production company, Wayfarer Studios.

According to the source, the unexpected release left Swift feeling disturbed.

“Taylor feels like her privacy was impacted,” the insider said. “Anyone would be uncomfortable if their private texts were suddenly made public.”

Swift, 36, was one of several high-profile figures whose messages appeared in the filings. Matt Damon and his wife, Luciana, were also included, having corresponded with Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, about Baldoni and the film.

The legal dispute began in December 2024, when Lively, 38, filed a lawsuit against Baldoni, 41, Wayfarer Studios, and several associates, accusing them of sexual harassment and launching a retaliatory smear campaign after she raised concerns.

Baldoni later filed a countersuit against Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, alleging defamation and extortion, though that case was dismissed.

His legal team is now pushing to have Lively’s lawsuit thrown out ahead of a trial scheduled for May.

As part of filings submitted before a summary judgment hearing on Thursday, January 22, Baldoni’s attorneys included text exchanges between Lively and some of her famous friends.

Portions of the messages show Lively and Swift discussing Baldoni and developments surrounding “It Ends With Us.”

In one exchange referenced by Baldoni’s legal team, Lively allegedly asked Swift to publicly support a revised version of the script she was proposing, “even without having read it.” According to the filing, Swift replied enthusiastically, saying she would support her friend.

Lively’s attorneys, however, argue the released messages lack important context. They point to Lively’s deposition, where she explained that she had sent Swift the script while Baldoni was still at her apartment and asked her to read it, stressing that there was no pressure. Swift had reportedly been on her way to visit Lively at the time.

Additional messages included Lively praising Swift, calling her “epically heroic,” and venting frustrations about Baldoni, referring to him as a “clown” and a “doofus.” Swift also allegedly made a disparaging remark about him in the texts, calling him a “b-tch.”

Taylor Swift Is Now Trying To ‘Stay Away From Drama’

Despite the attention surrounding the disclosures, a source says Swift never anticipated this outcome.

“She was just being a friend to Blake,” the insider explained. “It’s turned into something bigger than she ever expected. She never thought private messages would become public.”

For now, the source adds, Swift is “just trying to stay away from the drama.”

Meanwhile, Lively’s legal team has pushed back against the growing focus on her celebrity circle.

Speaking to reporters outside a Manhattan courthouse, her attorney, Sigrid McCawley, emphasized that the lawsuit is not about famous friends but about the treatment Lively says she endured on set.

McCawley said her Lively is standing up not only for herself, but also for other women who may be afraid to speak out about workplace sexual harassment.

The lawyer noted that this broader principle has made the case more complex, explaining that it goes beyond financial compensation.

She added that while Lively is trying to shield friends like Swift from being dragged into the dispute, the core issue remains unchanged: the alleged harassment Lively says she experienced during the filming of “It Ends With Us.”

Baldoni, for his part, alleged in his own court filings that Lively leveraged her close relationship with Swift to gain influence over “It Ends With Us,” a claim that Swift’s team has firmly denied.

In a statement shared with Us Weekly in May 2025, Swift’s spokesperson made it clear that the singer had no involvement in the film’s production.

According to the rep, “Taylor Swift never set foot on the set of this movie, she was not involved in any casting or creative decisions, she did not score the film, she never saw an edit or made any notes on the film.”

The statement also emphasized that she didn’t see “It Ends With Us” until weeks after it was released publicly, as she spent 2023 and 2024 touring internationally while headlining what was described as the “biggest tour in history.”

The spokesperson further emphasized that Swift’s sole connection to the project was granting permission for the use of her song “My Tears Ricochet.”

They added that nearly 20 other artists also licensed music for the film, and suggested that the subpoena referencing Swift was intended to “draw public interest by creating tabloid clickbait instead of focusing on the facts of the case.”
