Stefon Diggs gets good news from NFL about status for 2026 season

Veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs has remained a free agent throughout the spring despite the fact that he produced solid numbers with the New England Patriots last season en route to helping New England reach the Super Bowl.

It was previously suggested that some teams were waiting to learn the result of the NFL’s investigation of Diggs under the personal conduct policy before they would possibly consider signing the 32-year-old. On Friday, it was learned that Diggs has received some good news regarding his status for the 2026 season.

Will Stefon Diggs have to serve a suspension during 2026 season?

“The NFL closed out its review of the matter involving Stefon Diggs and his former chef,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter revealed on Friday afternoon. “It said there was insufficient evidence to support a finding of a personal conduct policy violation.”

Schefter was referencing an alleged incident involving Diggs said to have occurred on Dec. 2, 2025. While Diggs faced charges of felony strangulation or suffocation and misdemeanor assault and battery stemming from that matter, he was ultimately found not guilty in May.

What teams have been linked with Stefon Diggs?

Diggs led the Patriots last season with 85 receptions, 102 targets and 1,013 receiving yards. Over 17 games, he caught four touchdown passes.

Some previously wondered if the Patriots could welcome Diggs back to pair him up with newly-acquired WR1 A.J. Brown. However, Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel hinted earlier this week that he is “happy” with New England’s current receiver situation.

“I don’t think that’s something we’re exploring,” Vrabel added about New England possibly re-signing Diggs. “But I would never say no.”

Back in May, one story linked Diggs with the Los Angeles Rams, the Kansas City Chiefs, the Washington Commanders and the Atlanta Falcons. The Rams were among the teams that considered trading for Brown before the Philadelphia Eagles officially sent him to New England on June 1, but Los Angeles reportedly had concerns about his degenerative knee condition.

It’s unknown how much money Diggs is looking to earn via his next contract.
