Packers’ Matt LaFleur clears the air on his trust for Jordan Love

For most of his career, Green Bay Packers star Jordan Love has been a subject of debate.

The arm talent is evident, and he’s gotten better every year. However, some still think he’s erratic when it matters the most, and it often looks like head coach Matt LaFleur holds him back with his play-calling.

The Packers ran a nearly perfect 50-50 split between run (492) and pass plays (489) last season. With that in mind, Coach LaFleur shared his honest thoughts on his quarterback and how much he trusts him.

Matt LaFleur showers Jordan Love with praise

“Many teams in this league are only as good as your guy pulling the trigger, so we feel like we’re very fortunate to have one of those guys that I think the sky’s the limit for him,” LaFleur said, per NFL.com.

The Packers head coach added that his confidence in Love goes way beyond the field, especially after watching him grow so much on and off the gridiron since he entered the NFL.

“We trust each other quite a bit. I would say our relationship’s really strong,” LaFleur added. “It’s been cool to watch his evolution, not only as a player but as a man. From the time we drafted him to where he is now, and he’s about to be a dad here really, really soon in a couple weeks. But he’s really developed into a really good leader for us.”

Love and LaFleur are the second-longest-tenured quarterback-head coach duo behind only Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid. The former first-round pick will enter his seventh year in the league and his fourth as a starter. He’s coming off leading the Packers to a 9-5-1 record by completing 66.3 percent of his passes for 3,381 yards, 23 touchdowns and just six interceptions. He missed a couple of games with injuries.

The Packers have playmakers in the passing game, and with their run-blocking issues from last season, perhaps it’s time to put the ball in the quarterback’s hands and just let it rip more often.
