North Carolina’s demise may have been greatly exaggerated.

On Monday, the Associated Press No. 18 North Carolina Tar Heels (22-6, 10-5 in ACC) notched a significant conference home win, defeating the No. 24 Louisville Cardinals (20-8, 9-6 in ACC), 77-74, without star freshman forward Caleb Wilson.

The Tar Heels led the majority of the game and by as many as 16. They had a major advantage in points in the paint, finishing with 40 to the Cardinals’ 24.

North Carolina nets huge win over Louisville without freshman Caleb Wilson

When Wilson was ruled out indefinitely with a fractured hand on Feb. 12, it felt like a potential fatal blow to North Carolina’s title chances. But as CBS Sports college basketball insider Jon Rothstein noted on social media, coach Hubert Davis has confidently navigated the choppy waters, leading the team to a 3-1 record without Wilson.
