Kate Middleton Allegedly Found To Be Meghan Markle ‘Abrasive’

In “William & Catherine: The Intimate Inside Story,” author Russell Myers alleges personality clashes, staff disputes, and growing mistrust deepened the divide between the couple.

This ultimately reshaped the once-close bond between Prince William and his younger brother Harry, and widened the rift between the Waleses and the Sussexes.

A new book claims that the relationship between the Princess of Wales and the Duchess of Sussex was strained long before Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from royal duties.

In “William & Catherine: The Intimate Inside Story,” Daily Mirror royal editor Russell Myers writes that Kate struggled with Meghan’s manner and believed early on that a split from royal life was likely.

According to the author, the princess “who had so long been a voice of reason in the brothers’ previous squabbles, decided she could do no more to bring them together.”

However, Myers suggests that tensions escalated after concerns arose over how Harry and Meghan interacted with palace staff, people William and Kate were said to value deeply.

Myers also alleged that following the Sussexes’ 2018 wedding, the dynamic between the couples shifted noticeably.

William and Kate reportedly felt that Harry and Meghan had their own “agenda,” and the atmosphere between the two households became increasingly strained.

A source quoted in the book describes the mood as “toxic,” claiming Meghan’s “bullish” approach did not sit well with Kate, who allegedly “found her abrasive.”

The biography further suggests that Kate anticipated a separation from royal life, though perhaps not the scale of what ultimately unfolded in 2020.

Harry and Meghan began dating in 2016 and became engaged the following year before marrying in May 2018.

During their televised engagement interview, Harry shared that he had kept the relationship private at first, even from his family. He said William and Kate were eager to meet Meghan once they learned about her. Meghan, for her part, described Kate as “wonderful” during that early introduction.

Years later, the duchess reflected publicly on meeting William and Kate for the first time. She recalled hosting them for dinner while dressed casually in ripped jeans and barefoot.

Meghan explained that her naturally affectionate personality, which includes greeting people with hugs, may have felt unexpected within the more formal royal setting.

The duchess said she was surprised to discover that the “formality on the outside carried through on the inside.”

“There is a forward-facing way of being, and then you close the door and go ‘You can relax now’, but that formality carries over on both sides. And that was surprising to me,” Meghan noted.

In another section of the book, Myers examined how William reacted to Harry and Meghan’s 2019 television interview with Tom Bradby.

During the broadcast, Meghan acknowledged she had been finding life difficult, while Harry remarked that he and his brother were on “different paths.”

Myers also suggested the interview marked a turning point for William. According to the author, it underscored just how much the relationship between the brothers had shifted and reinforced a growing sense that the distance between the couples was becoming permanent.

A source cited in the book claims William felt he had, at some undefined moment, “lost” his brother.

The same source alleges that William believed Harry “became paranoid, angry, obsessive, and firmly rooted in the past. There’s no doubt, at that time at least, there was a lot of love and support available for Harry.”

The book also revisits reports that William had advised Harry to move cautiously in his relationship with Meghan.

While that guidance was later interpreted by some as skepticism, Myers includes claims that William initially had a positive impression of Meghan.

An insider quoted in the biography says William found her engaging and was “genuinely happy for Harry and only wanted the best for him.”
