Jim Carrey sparked a wave of surprise among fans when he appeared at the 51st César Awards looking noticeably different from how they remembered him.

The actor was at the event to receive an honorary award, but it was his unexpected facial transformation that drew the most attention. Fans quickly voiced concerns about whether he had gone under the knife, with one even asking if he was wearing a mask.

On Thursday, actor Jim Carrey stepped out in Paris for the César Awards, which are considered France’s highest film honors.

Dressed in an all-black suit and wearing his hair in a laid-back style, Carrey looked effortlessly stylish, though he chose to skip speaking to the press on the red carpet.

While attending the event, Carrey was more than just a guest. He was also a recipient, accepting an honorary César in recognition of his decades-long contribution to the film industry.

He now joins a prestigious list of other Hollywood stars who have won an Honorary César, such as Julia Roberts, Christopher Nolan, Kevin Costner, George Clooney, and Quentin Tarantino.

However, the milestone moment was punctuated by fans focusing on how different the actor looked, which echoed the same reactions from his rare public appearance at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony last November.

Fans Were Fixated On How Different Jim Carrey Seemingly Looked

Many fans claimed that the actor was unrecognizable compared to the individual they had grown accustomed to seeing in his movies, with some noting that his face seemed “puffy” and different.

“This is the French Carrey they sent,” one fan joked, “It’s all weird, funny, and depressing at the same time.”

“Maybe he’s trolling the world with a mask. I don’t know what else to believe. This is quite alarming,” a second user noted.

A third user said, “Did he do something to face? his face looks weird,” while a fourth noted, “That’s not Jim Carrey. Even the mannerisms are not of Jim Carrey. WTF is this fraud?”

Some individuals outright suggested that the actor had gone under the knife to achieve the shocking transformation.

“It’s Jim Carrey, people. He just got veneers and Botox or some work done on his face. That’s all,” one wrote. “Plus, he’s older too.”

Upon receiving the award, Carrey delivered an emotional speech in French, which left everyone surprised and impressed.

“As an actor, each character you play is like clay in the sculptor’s hands, which you shape to your heart’s desire,” Carrey told attendees, per reports.

He continued, “How fortunate I have been to share this art with so many people who have truly opened their hearts to me.”

Carrey also opened up about his family roots, revealing that his ancestor, Marc-François Carré, was born in Saint-Malo, France, before emigrating to Canada centuries ago.

“Thank you to my wonderful family, my daughter Jane, and my grandson Jackson. I love you now and forever. Thank you to my sublime companion, Min Ah,” Carrey said.

He added, “I love you, Min Ah. And finally, thank you to the funniest man I have ever known: my father, Percy Joseph Carrey, who taught me the value of love, generosity, and laughter.”

Over the past decade, Carrey has significantly slowed his acting output, even announcing in 2022 that he was stepping away from Hollywood after starring in “Sonic the Hedgehog 2.”

However, he later returned to reprise his role as Dr. Robotnik in the franchise’s third installment, while also taking on the additional role of the villain’s grandfather, Gerald Robotnik.

With “Sonic the Hedgehog 4” already greenlit and scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2027, it is expected that Carrey will reprise his role once again, and the actor has recently confirmed that he is open to returning.

“I’m definitely open,” Carrey said in an interview with Japanese YouTube channel Cinema Today. “I’m open to the idea, and generally, they come to me with the next idea, and if I go, ‘That sounds fun,’ then I’ll do it. I don’t feel locked to anything in life, unless it’s something that interests me.”
