Social media influencer-turned-boxer Jake Paul is expressing confusion over what happened to his X account. This comes after his post, calling his followers to boycott Bad Bunny‘s Super Bowl halftime show.

Paul took to social media to address the situation, claiming he had no idea what happened after his previous post sparked widespread attention.

On February 9, Paul posted a message on X, addressing statements he had previously made on his account. In the new post, Paul wrote, “Guys i love bad bunny idk what happened on my Twitter last night ?? wtf” It seems he’s implying that his account had been hacked when the tweets about Bad Bunny were posted.

The tweet was posted less than 24 hours after Paul said that he would be “purposefully turning off the halftime show,” referring to the Puerto Rican singer as a “fake American.”

His followers were confused, with one questioning, “Why is he changing minute by minute?” Another commented that with the way he’s posting, he may just be “an engagement farming genius” who knows exactly what will get maximum attention online.

Before the Super Bowl on February 8, Paul stated that he cannot support Bad Bunny, whom he described as a “fake American citizen performing who publicly hates America.”

Several hours later, he posted that his tweet was “misinterpreted,” adding, “he’s not a fake citizen obviously bc hes Puerto Rican, and I love Puerto Rico and all Americans who support the country,” but added that he called the singer “fake” because of his criticism of the U.S.

He posted another tweet, reiterating his second tweet by saying that he wasn’t calling Bad Bunny a “fake” American because he’s from Puerto Rico. Instead, he spoke out because the singer was “openly hating on America,” which is why he called him a “fake citizen.”

Moreover, Paul stated that he lives in Puerto Rico and loves it.

As previously reported by The Blast, Paul’s brother, Logan Paul, responded to his initial tweet. In his post, he wrote, “I love my brother, but I don’t agree with this. Puerto Ricans are Americans & I’m happy they were given the opportunity to showcase the talent that comes from the island.”

Logan moved to Puerto Rico in 2021, and his brother followed two years later. In his podcast, Logan admitted that a big part of his move was due to the taxes.

Puerto Rico has tax incentives for residents who qualify under specific programs. For instance, Act 60 states that new Puerto Rico residents who are eligible are tax exempt from Puerto Rico income taxes on dividends, interest, cryptocurrencies, and crypto assets, as well as short-term and long-term capital gains.

Bad Bunny is proud of his Puerto Rican roots, and he has spoken about issues in his home country, particularly gentrification. In early 2025, he released his album “Debí Tirar Más Fotos,” which translates to “I should have taken more photos.”

It’s also the title of a short documentary film he released alongside the album. The film focuses on changes in Puerto Rico over the last 10 years, largely due to the influx of foreigners, such as the Paul brothers, who moved to the country to take advantage of Act 60, per Trill Magazine.

As a result, rent prices have increased dramatically for locals, while their salaries have remained stagnant.

Paul’s X post about being confused was viewed more than a million times within an hour of posting. Many were skeptical of his claim, saying he was backtracking on his words due to the backlash he received.

“Worried you’re gonna get kicked out of your tax haven? you’re a clown wearing PR patches and using PR when it benefits you, go ahead and move out of Dorado, PR, and go pay your federal taxes back in the mainland,” one wrote.

“You called him a fake America,n and now you love him, and now you don’t know what happened to your Twitter… dementia or hack? What’s the excuse?” another commented.

Another wrote, “Nah, you knew darn well what happened to your twitter you ain’t got to fold now, c’mon.”
