Jaguars star’s extension could be a steal of a deal for Jax

The Jacksonville Jaguars locked in a key piece of their defense on Friday by signing edge-rusher Travon Walker to a four-year, $110 million contract extension that includes $50 million in guarantees. It averages out to $27.5 million per season.

It not only keeps a core piece for the team in Jacksonville for the foreseeable future, but it also might end up being a steal of a contract for the team under the salary cap.

Travon Walker’s contract extension looks like steal for Jaguars

While it is a significant investment, the $27.5 million average per season only ranks him 12th among the NFL’s edge-rushers at the time of the signing.

While Walker has already established himself as an impact player, there is still untapped potential with him that could allow him to take an even bigger leap forward in the coming seasons. Combine that with the rising salary cap every year, as well as the fact that other players at his position are likely to sign bigger contracts over the duration of it.

Walker was limited to just 14 games during the 2025 season and recorded only 3.5 sacks, the lowest total of his career, but he still made an impact when he was on the field. That down year statistically might make a contract like this seem like something of a risk, but he has multiple double-digit sack seasons in his career and can still take over games.

For his career, he has 27.5 sacks, 36 tackles for loss, 57 quarterback hits, an interception, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and a touchdown.

After winning the AFC South in 2025, the Jaguars will be entering the 2026 season with high expectations be sky-high. Walker will be one of the players they are counting on the most to deliver on defense.
