Paltrow began trending online after her return to the 2026 Oscars in a jaw-dropping dress. She rocked a custom Giorgio Armani Privé dress with high-cut-out slits on the sides that ran all the way to the top. Paltrow complemented the dramatic outfit with sheer trousers tailored with crystal embellishments.

The outfit gave onlookers plenty to see, especially with the “Iron Man” actress appearing commando underneath the dress. The risqué dress flashed plenty of skin when Paltrow moved, with a viral video capturing her in a hurry. The clip, shared on X, showed Paltrow being escorted down the stairs to a secluded area from the crowd.

Paltrow raised the hem of her dress high to move quickly and appeared to have shown off more skin than intended, and seemingly stopped a photographer from taking her picture. Her actions naturally sparked a conversation about what happened in the comments.

The video was captioned, “Gwyneth Paltrow is breaking the internet after suffering an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction at the Oscars.” However, the comments were divided, with some arguing that Paltrow did not suffer a wardrobe malfunction.

“This is no Malfunction, she definitely flashed the camera. At times, you just have to get wild for the internet, even as a celebrity, right?” someone claimed. Another argued that the video was “clickbait,” sharing pictures from the event that captured Paltrow posing confidently in the risqué dress.

“Gwyneth didn’t have a wardrobe malfunction, she had a wardrobe STATEMENT. That dress was designed to show every inch of leg on purpose,” a third supporter stressed. On the other hand, some fans argued that Paltrow had intentionally “flashed” people to gain attention. “That’s not an accident, that’s a choice,” someone added.

According to Page Six, Paltrow’s viral dress was a custom ivory silk design from Giorgio Armani Privé. The strapless number featured Old Hollywood elegance from the front and a bold, edgy look from the sides, thanks to the daring slits.

Paltrow wore sparkling sheer trousers underneath and complemented the fit with white Christian Louboutin shoes. She accessorized with a stunning platinum and 18-carat yellow gold Tiffany and Co. necklace, platinum and diamond rings, plus earrings featuring over 4 and 8 carats of diamonds.

The actress’s bold appearance marked her first in over a decade after last appearing at the Oscars in 2015. At the time, she donned a one-shoulder pink gown from Ralph & Russo. The outlet reported that the dress is now up for auction, with fans able to bid.

Paltrow’s viral moment at the Oscars isn’t the first time she has trended this year for her wardrobe choices. PEOPLE reported that she suffered a small hiccup at the 2026 Actor Awards when she lost one of her 96-year-old earrings.

The TV personality had donned two Belperron turquoise clip-on earrings from 1930, per reports, but lost one of them during the event. However, Paltrow did not let the wardrobe malfunction stop her from hitting the stage, and she joined her “Marty Supreme” co-stars while rocking one earring.

The missing earring reportedly made its way back to Paltrow before the end of the night as photographers captured her with both earrings. She donned classic pieces of jewelry to complement her cleavage-baring black dress, which featured a sheer lace bodice.

Fans of Paltrow are used to her flaunting her toned figure on red carpets, and risqué slits have been featured in her past ensembles. E! News covered Paltrow’s bold appearance at the “Iron Man 3” premiere in 2013.

At the time, she donned an Antonio Berardi gown featuring black, dark teal, and white in the front and sheer fabric on the sides. Paltrow further turned up the heat by seemingly going commando underneath the gown.

When asked about the daring look, Paltrow admitted that “it’s very see-through” but stood by her choice. “I just thought it was really beautiful, and it sort of has a superhero thing happening,” she explained.
