Second-year New York Giants pass-rusher Abdul Carter generated headlines when he took to social media to share what seemed to be a negative reaction to a video showing second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart introducing President Donald Trump at a recent event in New York.
Carter later posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) and said that he and Dart “spoke earlier as men” and “are good.” During Tuesday’s edition of the WFAN morning show that he co-hosts, NFL analyst and one-time MVP Boomer Esiason blasted Carter for the 22-year-old’s original reaction to the Dart video.
Abdul Carter made “a real error” with Jaxson Dart post
“This was a real error on the part of Abdul Carter, not on the part of Jaxson Dart,” Esiason said, per Matt Yoder of Awful Announcing. “Jaxson Dart was asked to introduce the President of the United States. How many people get an opportunity to do something like that, regardless of who the president is? You may have hated Barack Obama. You may have hated Joe Biden. And some guys didn’t want to go to the White House because they didn’t like those presidents, just like other guys didn’t want to go to the White House because they didn’t like President Trump.”
Esiason then referenced how Carter, the third overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft, was largely a disappointment throughout his rookie season. Specifically, then-Giants interim head coach Mike Kafka benched Carter for tardiness on multiple occasions. In November of last year, The Athletic’s Dan Duggan reported that being late to meetings had “been a trend during Carter’s rookie season that former coach Brian Daboll let slide.”
Before Carter ever played a down of NFL football, he upset some Giants fans and other members of the football community when he attempted to bring either Lawrence Taylor’s No. 56 jersey or Phil Simms’ No. 11 out of retirement. Carter ultimately rocked No. 51 for his rookie campaign.
Boomer Esiason: Abdul Carter made another “boneheaded error”
“But to put this out like a child on social media is ridiculous,” Esiason added during his comments about Carter. “And then when I heard, ‘Yeah, we spoke man to man.’ There was only one man on that call, and that was Jaxson Dart. You were a man who was late to meetings. You were a man who didn’t live up to your draft choice. You’re a man who wanted to wear No. 56, and by the way, your idol No. 56 has introduced Donald Trump numerous times, so I don’t want to hear this. He made another just boneheaded error by going to social media.”
For a piece published on Tuesday, NFL insider Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated wrote about the Carter-Dart situation and noted that “people are operating on the assumption that these back-and-forth actions are creating some sort of divide in an NFL locker room that can’t be fixed” before the upcoming season starts in September. For what it’s worth, Giants offensive lineman Jermaine Eluemunor insisted this past Saturday that the team’s “locker room is fine.”
