Dodgers’ Roberts defends Ohtani’s special treatment after backlash

Shohei Ohtani is, by every objective and subjective measure, the best show in baseball — and potentially even in sports — right now.

The Los Angeles Dodgers‘ two-way superstar currently holds the longest active on-base streak (43 games) and the longest active streak of consecutive innings pitched without allowing an earned run (28 2/3 IP).

That type of dual dominance requires special preparation and additional time, which didn’t sit well with Toronto Blue Jays star George Springer. Springer was frustrated and complaining to the umpires in Wednesday’s game vs. the Dodgers as Ohtani took more time than usual to warm up. With that in mind, manager Dave Roberts came to his defense.

Dave Roberts urges patience with Shohei Ohtani

“Just talking about the World Series obviously, they [Blue Jays] were a little frustrated about how long Shohei takes in between innings,” Roberts said postgame (h/t Foul Territory TV).
