Caitlin Clark breaks silence on WNBA commissioner controversy

Caitlin Clark has not had much to say about the supposed controversial remarks that WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert made about her, but the Indiana Fever star did address the topic on Thursday.

Minnesota Lynx star Napheesa Collier held a news conference on Tuesday during which she unloaded on Engelbert and the WNBA’s leadership. While reading a prepared statement, Collier shared an exchange she claims she had with Engelbert about Clark back in February.

Collier says Engelbert told her that Clark should be grateful for all the money the former Iowa star makes off the court because Clark “wouldn’t make anything” without the WNBA giving her a platform.

Caitlin Clark comments on the situation

Clark was asked on Thursday about the alleged swipe by the commissioner. She focused more on the overall message Collier delivered about the current state of the WNBA.

“First of all, I have great respect for Phee and I think she made a lot of very valid points. I think what people need to understand is that we need great leadership in this time across all levels. This is, straight up, the most important moment in this league’s history,” Clark said. “This league’s been around for 25-plus years, and this is a moment we have to capitalize on. So, that’s honestly what I would say. I think Phee said it all with what she said and the points she made were very valid.”
