Britain Proposes Social Media Ban for Children Under 16

Prime Minister Keir Starmer of Britain said that the government would introduce new regulations later this year to ban social media for children under 16. The measures, expected to take effect in early 2027, will also include restrictions on some game platforms and livestreaming apps.

I always prefer the politics of partnership. And I fundamentally believe that we must harness the power of technology to build a stronger, fairer Britain. But we must also protect our children. I am not prepared to compromise on the safety and happiness of our children, and that is why this ban must happen. And that is why this ban will happen. I didn’t think it would actually happen. I kind of believed that he’d chicken out of it and give it more time or more consideration. But he seems pretty sure of it, and I’m not sure if I agree with him. I didn’t — I thought he’d give it more time to think about it and the effects it would have. But I know in the future it will have a positive impact on young people’s lives and their mental health.
