Anne Hathaway will not let any detail pass her by when it comes to her craft.

The actress revealed a pre-production ritual she swears by and how it may come across as overbearing to some directors and producers, but it is ultimately for the growth of her brand.

Anne Hathaway’s acting career began at the age of 18 when she featured in Garry Marshall’s 2001 comedy flick “The Princess Diaries.”

The actress gave a close look into her creative process and how she spends the days, minutes, and hours leading up to production, frantically researching and studying the script.

Hathaway confessed that her very inquisitive nature can be frustrating for filmmakers and producers sometimes.

She added that she usually stays ahead of the curve by explaining to directors who have not had any contact with her before that she is quite the investigator. In her words:

“Like everything, even lines that I absolutely love, I just ask every single question. I hold everything up to the light. I poke holes in everything. And I think it I know for a fact it’s freaked some of them out.”

Hathaway continued on The A24 Podcast on Tuesday that her attitude is usually for the best because she wants to execute the vision of the producer and director to a tee by knowing every single detail.

In 2023, Hathaway granted an interview to Variety, discussing some truths about the industry and the warnings she received as a teen actor about the possibility of her career growing past a certain age as a woman in Hollywood.

She recalled being told that her career would fall off at the age of 35, which was accurate for a lot of women until recently, when they began breaking the mold, which is heartwarming news to her. Despite this progress, Hathaway shared that there is still a long way to go.

Hathaway also spoke about acting and how her career leaves her with a sweet feeling, knowing that she gets to be a part of moments where people feel comfort, excitement, and connection with the project being showcased.

Two years ago, ABC News noted that Hathaway gave iconic director Christopher Nolan his flower for keeping her career back on track when he cast her in his hit 2014 movie “Interstellar.”

She described Nolan as an angel she needed at that point in her life due to the beautiful role he gave to her, leaving an effect on her career by helping it sustain momentum.

Hathaway stated that Nolan’s actions did what they were supposed to do, and for that, he feels genuinely grateful.

The actress affirmed that Nolan’s casting of her also happened at the right time, when directors were so concerned about the toxicity attached to her online image and would not give her roles.

Hathaway’s criticism peaked online right after she won an Oscar for her role in “Les Misérables” in 2013, which earned her several knocks online.

As stated by The Blast, Hathaway spurred rumors of getting work done on her face following her appearance at the 2025 Met Gala ceremony in New York City.

She was also named the Most Beautiful Woman for People magazine with her appearance as the May cover star.

In the interview, Hathaway was asked to define what beauty means to her, to which she gave an unconventional response, repeating a candid statement she heard from a fellow Hollywood star.

“A filmmaker once told me this: Beauty can contain within its ugliness as long as it contains truth. So for me, beauty always falls along those lines,” the actress declared.

Aside from her unusual definition of beauty, Hathaway also praised her personal trainer for putting in the work via private lessons, including ballet, HIIT, Pilates, and yoga.

The iconic actress further noted during an interview in the past that she struggled with the toxic fixation on her weight after her breakout role as Catwoman in “The Dark Knight Rises.”

Starring opposite Christian Bale in the 2012 Nolan blockbuster, she discusses that the public conversation centered more on her weight than the strength her very demanding role required.

According to the actress, the director clarified before filming that his priority was not weight loss, but ensuring she was physically capable of performing the movie’s challenging stunts.

Hathaway recalled embarking on extensive training to master stunts, including a mean backward flip out of a window.

The actress, however, praised her husband, Adam Shulman, for constantly supporting her and keeping things steady on the home front while she killed it on sets.
