New mock draft has Cowboys making crazy trade

It has been a while since the Dallas Cowboys made the type of massive splash that Jerry Jones has become known for over the years, but one reporter believes that could potentially change in the upcoming NFL Draft.

Mike Giardi of Boston Sports Journal published his latest mock draft on Monday. The reporter included trades in his predictions, and he has the Cowboys trading all the way up to No. 2 overall from No. 12 to select Travis Hunter.

If the Cowboys were to make that type of move, Giardi speculates that it would cost (in addition to No. 12 overall) a second-round pick this year, a future first-round pick and then some. He believes it is possible, however.

“This noise started at the Shrine Bowl and has gotten slightly louder since,” Giardi wrote. “We know Jerry Jones loves his stars (even if he drags his feet when it comes time to pay them).”

The Cowboys need help at both cornerback and wide receiver. They have nothing but unproven players behind CeeDee Lamb, and they lost one of their top defensive backs in free agency when Jourdan Lewis signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Hunter wants to play both ways in the NFL like he did at Colorado. The team that drafts him will likely want him to focus on one position, though it remains unclear which position that will be.

The Browns are also reportedly high on Hunter, which is why they may not have interest in trading back. Though, Giardi’s latest mock has Cleveland taking Shedeur Sanders at 12th overall. If the Browns thought they could land Sanders while stockpiling future picks, that is probably something they would at least explore.

With multiple former Cowboys players taking shots at the team after finding new homes this offseason, Jones has to be feeling as antsy as ever to make a big move. You can never rule anything out in Dallas on draft night.
