Happy 38th birthday to nine-time All-Star, three-time Reliever of the Year winner, 2018 World Series Champion and newest member of the Tampa Bay Rays, Craig Kimbrel!

Kimbrel made his MLB debut in a very limited role with the Atlanta Braves in 2010, pitching just 20 2/3 innings that season. With his rookie status still in place for 2011, he led the National League with 46 saves in 79 appearances, striking out 127 batters and posting a 2.10 ERA en route to his first All-Star game and Rookie of the Year honors.

That season started a stretch of four-consecutive years Kimbrel would lead the NL in saves, eclipsing the 40-save mark each year and leading all of baseball with 50 in 2013. Kimbrel left the Braves for a single season in San Diego after 2014 before he joined the Boston Red Sox for a three-year stint in 2016. He played his part in the Red Sox 2018 World Series championship, posting a 2.74 ERA with 42 saves in the regular season (his final 40-save season) before struggling in the playoffs.

Since then Kimbrel has bounced around the league, beginning the 2026 season with the New York Mets. His own struggles contributed to a disastrous start as a whole for the Metropolitans, and he was granted free agency on May 25 and was quickly snapped up by the team with the best record in the American League in Tampa Bay.

Which brings us to today’s quiz. Kimbrel is one of just 31 pitchers in MLB history to rack up at least 300 saves in his career. How many of those players can you name in five minutes?

    Good luck!
