Iran has said that there is no plan for a second round of negotiations with the United States for now, leaving the Middle East ceasefire talks on shaky ground.

The US has hoped to kick off peace talks before the two-week ceasefire expires this week.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said on Monday (Apr 20) that the US was not serious about pursuing diplomacy, citing what it called “violations” of their two-week ceasefire.

He said the US attack on an Iranian cargo ship early Monday, the US naval blockade on Iranian ports, and delays in implementing a ceasefire in Lebanon were “clear violations of the ceasefire”.
