The realities of growing up in a plural family are taking center stage in “Sister Wives” star Mykelti Brown’s life as she opens up about the lasting toll it has on her motherhood journey.

This comes years after she stepped away from the polygamous setup, with her brother Paedon Brown also choosing distance from the family.

As the cracks within the household continue to deepen, Kody Brown appears to have reached his breaking point, revealing a decisive stance on the lifestyle that once defined their family.

The weight of growing up in a plural family was evident in Mykelti’s recent Instagram post, where she reflected on how it has shaped her motherhood journey.

“Friendly reminder from a new mom who had five different women show her what motherhood looked like and still felt completely unprepared,” said the daughter of Christine Brown. “If you feel lost trying to figure out your own parenting style, that makes sense. In a plural family, you don’t really get one parenting model. You’re just absorbing five different ones.”

She further emphasized how being exposed to multiple parenting styles can leave one unsure of which path to follow.

According to People Magazine, reinforcing her message, she captioned the post, “Growing up in polygamy complicates not just your childhood but also motherhood!”

Mykelti is one of Kody’s 18 children from multiple wives. She has since stepped away from the plural lifestyle and married her husband, Tony Padron, in 2016.

While Mykelti is now speaking out, her mother, Christine Brown, had previously revealed how emotionally draining the situation has been for her daughter, who was relocated for the sake of her peace.

As reported by The Blast, Christine shared, “I know part of the reason they’re leaving is, [Mykelti] is just exhausted from trying so hard to get everybody back together again.”

She explained that Mykelti did everything she could to keep the family united, but her efforts ultimately fell short, leaving her with frustration and unresolved emotions.

Shedding more light on how tense the plural family can be, Kody also described his relationship with some of his older children as strained, noting that it often involves “trash talk” and “innuendos,” which continue to test trust within the family.

Mykelti is not the only one creating distance, as Christine’s 27-year-old son, Paedon, also made plans to relocate to North Carolina.

According to The Blast, Christine admitted that it has been difficult watching her children choose to live far away from her.

“Why does he need to move as well? It’s hard that my kids don’t want to live close to me, yeah, absolutely. What is it about North Carolina that has people moving there? It’s insane,” she said.

Regardless of her feelings, she expressed gratitude that Paedon would be staying with her former co-wife, Janelle, someone she deeply trusts.

Despite the ongoing challenges, Christine remains hopeful about the future of Kody’s relationship with their children. “Things are going to get better,” the mother of six said, per The Blast.

She described the father-child dynamic as “an ongoing story” and maintained her belief that Kody is a good person, expressing optimism that healing will come with time.

According to her, the ongoing tension seems to be the nature of a polygamous home, but if they work through their issues, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Amid the ongoing family tension, Kody has admitted that the demands of polygamy have taken a significant toll on him.

“I had 18 kids with four wives,” he said. “It has been three divorces, and I would never do that again — I would never marry again,” he confessed on the TLC Show, as reported by The Blast.

Reflecting on the aftermath of his marriages, he acknowledged the strain it had placed on his relationship with his children, admitting there is “some bad blood.” The patriarch further added that there are some of his kids with whom he has no communication.

According to Kody, his regrettable choices were influenced by his upbringing, as his father was also a polygamist.
