The trailer for “The Devil Wears Prada 2” made history after becoming the most-viewed within a 24-hour period in the history of 20th Century Studios.

The studio’s official account on X acknowledged the milestone with a post describing the trailer as “groundbreaking.”

The film is set to premiere in May, with several members of the original cast returning.

‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ Trailer Accrued 222 Million Views In 24 Hours

20th Century Studios released the full official trailer for “The Devil Wears Prada 2” across multiple platforms on February 2.

The sequel has been very keenly anticipated since Deadline confirmed in 2024 that the project was in early development.

This meant the first confirmed trailer was always likely to attract big numbers, but the 222 million views it amassed within the first 24 hours would turn out to be an all-time record.

A post on the studio’s official X account celebrated the milestone, saying, “222,000,000 trailer views in 24hrs? Groundbreaking. Literally. Thank you for making The Devil Wears Prada 2 the most viewed 20th Century Studios trailer of all time.”

Excitement for the David Frankel sequel has been steadily building, but appears to have surged following the release of the trailer.

Fans are particularly excited at the prospect of watching Streep reunite with the rest of the star-studded cast.

In the comment section of the trailer on YouTube, one fan admitted they kept replaying the clip just to watch Streep.

“Watched the 1st movie and this trailer thrice only for Meryl Streep,” the viewer wrote. “What an aura… big fan.”

Some viewers also used the moment to highlight the dramatic rise of the main cast over the past two decades.

“Crazy to think that in the first film, Meryl Streep was the only one in the four-person ensemble who was an Oscar nominee or winner,” one fan wrote. “Fast forward 20 years, and now every single one of them has been nominated for or won an Oscar.”

‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ Picks Up Years After The Events Of The Original Film

The new film is set roughly 20 years after the events of the original, returning audiences to the world of Runway magazine.

Hathaway played Andy Sachs, a young and idealistic journalist who is hired as a personal assistant to Miranda Priestly, the imposing editor-in-chief played by Streep.

In the sequel, Andy has built a strong career as an investigative journalist. She is drawn back into the Runway orbit as the magazine faces mounting institutional and financial pressure.

Blunt’s Emily Charlton has since risen to become a powerful executive within the luxury fashion world, controlling access to advertising revenue that could ultimately determine Runway’s survival.

Anne Hathaway Had Previously Dismissed The Possibility Of A Sequel

Before 20th Century Studios officially moved forward with plans for a sequel, Hathaway had repeatedly shut down suggestions that a follow-up film would ever materialize.

During a red-carpet interview with Entertainment Tonight in 2022, the actress urged fans to appreciate the original rather than expect a continuation.

“It’s not gonna happen,” Hathaway said at the time. “It’s just… we can’t do it. There are other films, there will be other films. We can just watch that one again.”

Roughly two years later, the “Les Mis” star still expressed doubts, although she had notably softened her stance this time.

“If somebody could come up with a way to do it, I think we’d all be crazy not to,” Hathaway told V Magazine.

Emily Blunt Said The Cast Was Unable To Share Details About ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’

In November 2025, Blunt was asked to reveal something about the upcoming movie, and she insisted that the cast was not allowed to discuss any aspects of it.

The actress was speaking during an episode of “Tiny Talks” by ELLE, a series where child “intern” Taylen Biggs hosts brief interviews with celebrities.

When asked what she could tease about the sequel, Blunt joked about how closely the studio was guarding details of the project.

“See, I can’t tease anything,” Blunt said. “[If I do,] Disney will come in here and literally blow dart me.”
