According to reports, the singer changed her phone number as a way to “set boundaries” and “protect her peace” amid the “It Ends With Us” drama.

The messages were made public by Justin Baldoni’s lawyers ahead of the trial, scheduled for May, which remains a possibility as the presiding judge has yet to rule on a motion to summarily dismiss the case.

Taylor Swift’s Phone Number Change Wasn’t ‘Petty’ Or ‘Dramatic’

Days ago, messages between Blake Lively and Taylor Swift made their way online after they were unsealed as part of the ongoing legal feud between the actress and her “It Ends With Us” co-star, Baldoni.

Now, the shocking revelation of seeing her private messages laid bare online has reportedly forced Swift to change her phone number.

According to sources who spoke with journalist Rob Shuter’s #ShuterScoop, the surprising move by the singer was all about privacy and control.

“Taylor needed to set boundaries and protect her peace,” one insider shared. “She’s very private and doesn’t take kindly to people overstepping.”

A second source revealed, “This wasn’t petty or dramatic — it was about reclaiming control over her life. She had to make sure her friends knew her new number so she could stay connected on her terms.”

At this time, it remains unclear whether Swift shared her new number with Lively, as their relationship has reportedly been strained since the singer was drawn into the feud last year.

Regardless, the number is said to be limited to a very small circle, allowing Swift to quickly shut down any situations that could compromise her privacy.

“Taylor’s circle is very tight. She values her personal space, and when things get messy, she shuts it down fast. Changing her number was the cleanest way to do that,” a different source also noted.

With the number change, Swift also appears to have proven that she is not afraid to enforce boundaries, even when it comes to long-standing personal relationships.

“This was a full reset,” said another insider who is friends with the singer. “She’s in charge of who can reach her and when —, and that’s how she keeps her sanity in Hollywood.”

One of the unsealed messages was sent by Lively to Swift in April 2024, a few months before “It Ends With Us” debuted in cinemas.

The text included a link to the film’s trailer, which featured Swift’s song “My Tears Ricochet.”

The two then appeared to discuss how the inclusion of the song by Baldoni might be interpreted by the public, particularly given the ongoing tension between Lively and Baldoni at the time, as well as Swift’s close friendship with Lively.

“If Justin was strategic/He would be like no Taylor Swift in the trailer/Because that gives you more power over the film, that’s your ally not his,” Swift wrote in a part of the text, per AP News.

Lively responded, “You are so right. And so wickedly smart to call it. He should’ve run from your music. I never thought about that. But holy sh-t. How stupid. This was his only shot at having the appearance of an upper hand.”

A hearing for the ongoing lawsuit was held earlier this week, during which both sides presented arguments on whether the case should be summarily dismissed or proceed to trial.

“It’s not enough to show that sex or sexuality found its way into the workplace,” Baldoni’s lawyer, Jonathan Bach, said, while emphasizing the importance of context in the case.

“Their burden is to show that it not only entered the workplace, but was used to discriminate against women,” Bach added.

Meanwhile, Lively’s lawyer argued that Baldoni’s behavior was “consistently inappropriate and crossing boundaries.”

They cited a birth scene and a dance sequence as instances where the film director breached professionalism during his time working with Lively.

For now, the presiding judge, Lewis Liman, has yet to rule on the matter, and the trial remains scheduled for May 18, 2026.
