Unsurprisingly, the Texas Longhorns fired men’s basketball head coach Rodney Terry on Sunday. However, is his replacement a massive upgrade? Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte confirmed he moved on from Terry in a statement. Per Cedric Golden of the Austin American-Statesman, Xavier head coach Sean Miller will be hired to replace him. Xavier beat Texas 86-80 in the First Four of the NCAA Tournament, but the reported hiring of Miller may not thrill Texas fans. He served as Arizona Wildcats HC from 2009-21 until he was fired. In his last season with the program, the NCAA penalized Arizona for recruiting…

I had a conversation last week with a Canadian journalist about the culture war on American campuses. After we finished talking about that, she had one final question for me.“What the hell is Trump thinking about Canada?”She wasn’t just asking about President Trump’s tariff threats. She was also asking about Trump’s obsession with referring to Canada as the 51st state. The tariffs were somewhat understandable, even if terribly misguided. They are, after all, one of Trump’s few consistent policy obsessions. He likes tariffs perhaps even more than he likes walls. But if anyone thinks that Trump is merely trolling or joking…
Opinions expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their own. Think about Uber, Google and countless individuals building their own sales funnels and business modeling. As the global economy breaks apart, entrepreneurship is the one thing that is going to save us all from crumbling down as a society.Governments are divided along party lines, many multinational firms prefer short-term gains over long-term innovations and archaic systems face new problems they are ill-equipped to deal with. The truth is we are going to increasingly rely on entrepreneurs — uniquely imaginative, resourceful and flexible, as they will ultimately be our path to survival and…
A classroom decorated as part of a myopia trial in Lijiang in Yunnan province, ChinaWeizhong Lan/ AIER Academy of Opthalmology, Central South University Myopia has long been linked to spending too much time inside, but new research suggests that just simulating the outdoors in classrooms could help ward off the condition in children. Short-sightedness, or myopia, generally emerges as the eye changes shape during normal development in early life, and the distance between the cornea at the front of the eye and the retina at the back becomes too long. This results in blurry vision of distant objects… Source link
Pope Francis’ condition has improved enough that he will be discharged from a hospital in Rome on Sunday and sent to recover in the Vatican for at least two months, his doctors said on Saturday evening. On Sunday, Francis plans to make his first public appearance since he was hospitalized on Feb. 14. On March 4, a Trump appointee at the Department of Veterans Affairs circulated a memo to senior leadership. The agency, it said, would “move out aggressively” to improve efficiency, with an “initial objective” of cutting the work force to 2019 levels. The next morning, someone posted a copy of this “reduction in force” memo to a Reddit group called VeteransAffairs, an online community of 19,000 members. The copy was difficult to follow, a sequence of photos taken of the memo on a screen, but the message was clear enough: Some 80,000 jobs would be cut.Questions and comments poured in, some bewildered,…
When economists seek to account for the dollar’s outsize role as the only true global currency, they point to structural factors such as the US share of world GDP, or the depth and liquidity of US financial markets. This approach underlies the sanguine view of many financial market participants that, come what may, so long as the US remains the world’s leading economy, the dollar will remain its safe haven. The second Trump administration is a reminder that raw numbers can only take us so far. For as historians will tell you, it is the actions of people, not economies or…
Credit: Office of the Governor of California via Wikimedia Commons California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s administration has requested a $2.8 billion bailout for taxpayer-funded Medi-Cal, on top of an additional $3.4 billion for the program requested last week. With $9.5 billion spent by Medi-Cal on illegal immigrant health care this year, Newsom told a press gaggle that this benefits expansion was at least partially to blame. He also shared his support for universal taxpayer-funded health care. “It’s partial,” said Newsom, speaking to the relationship between expanding taxpayer-funded healthcare to illegal immigrants and the $6.4 billion bailout request. “I believe in universal healthcare … it’s just…
