Francia Raisa is opening up about her rumored rift with Selena Gomez, and while she’s clearing the air, her answers are leaving fans with even more questions.

The actress, best known for donating a kidney to Gomez in 2017, spoke candidly in an interview where she addressed years of speculation about their friendship.

Despite constant talk of feuds, distance, and tension, Raisa insists that things between her and Gomez aren’t what people think.

During the new interview, Raisa was asked directly about the rumors that she had fallen out with Selena Gomez. The “How I Met Your Father” actress immediately dismissed the speculations.

“Well, right now what you are asking me is nonsense that has been in the media, and there are too many rumors,” she said sharply, per the Daily Mail. “I’ve never said anything.”

She continued, “When that rumor came out that I had gotten angry or something like that because [Gomez] was smoking, I wasn’t aware of those rumors. No one knows what’s going on, and neither she nor I are talking about it. One day, maybe we will address it.”

Raisa also referenced Gomez’s then-upcoming wedding to Benny Blanco, which she reportedly did not attend.

“I know she’s getting married, and I’m very happy for her. And look… she has a life and she is already a billionaire and I am grateful that I could do that for her,” she said in Spanish.

    Gomez And Raisa’s Complicated History

Selena Gomez and Francia Raisa’s bond goes back to one of the most emotional moments of the Nickelodeon star’s life.

In 2017, Raisa donated one of her kidneys to the pop star after she suffered complications from lupus, an autoimmune disease that had severely damaged her kidneys.

The transplant nearly cost Gomez her life when an artery burst during surgery, leaving her with a large scar on the inside of her thigh from emergency repair.

Raisa has shared how emotionally and physically draining the process was for both of them.

“It’s going to be hard, the recipient is going to glow and she’s going to recover a lot faster than the donor because she’s getting something she needs and you are losing something you don’t need to lose,” a social worker warned her before surgery.

“And it was hard,” Raisa admitted later, adding that both she and Gomez went through depression after the procedure.

Despite those challenges, Raisa has said she never felt pressured into donating her kidney, a claim some fans once questioned.

According to her, it came from the kindness of her heart.

In 2022, talk of tension between Gomez and Raisa resurfaced when the “Wizards of Waverly Place” star revealed that her only friend in the industry was Taylor Swift.

The quote immediately raised eyebrows, and Raisa appeared to take offense, commenting “Interesting” under a post about the interview, before deleting it.

Gomez later responded, “Sorry I didn’t mention every person I know.”

The exchange fueled months of speculation that the two women had fallen out. Gomez tried to calm things down the following year, calling Raisa her “lifesaver” in an Apple TV+ documentary.

Still, Raisa later admitted that their friendship had changed. “We hadn’t spoken much in six years,” she told USA Today in 2023. “Especially [in] the last year, we didn’t speak at all. We’ve never really had beef with each other. Nothing happened, and if you ask either of us, we don’t know what happened, but we needed that time apart.”

Even as she denies any feud, Raisa’s recent comments leave plenty of mystery hanging.

Her absence from Selena Gomez’s star-studded wedding to Blanco did not go unnoticed by fans.

Around the same time, the 37-year-old posted a video of herself dancing with a choreographer, suggesting she was somewhere else entirely.

In her latest interview, Raisa shifted the focus to the importance of organ donation, making it clear that her decision to help Gomez was never about expecting something in return.

She explained that doctors had reminded her early on that a donation is simply a gift, not a contract.

Using an analogy, she said that donating a kidney was no different from giving money to a charity.

Meanwhile, Raisa’s comments have since ignited a flurry of mixed reactions on social media.

On Reddit, many users expressed sympathy for the actress, feeling that she was forced to admit all was well out of fear of receiving backlash.

“I feel bad for her. She can’t really openly talk about her feelings because the Selena fans will attack her. It definitely seems like they are not close anymore,” one fan shared.

Another with similar sentiments noted, “Personally, I could feel her anxiety through the screen of not saying anything that could be interpreted negatively by Selena’s fans.”

On the other hand, some users praised Raisa for being the bigger person, as things would have been different if they were in her shoes.

“Francia is way classier than me, because I would be telling the whole world how I felt about xyz,” one Redditor shared.
