Celtics’ asking price for Jaylen Brown revealed

The Boston Celtics reportedly tried to trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo, but to no avail.

As a result, other teams believe Jaylen Brown, who was the centerpiece of their offer for Giannis, can now be had at the right price.

Unsurprisingly, that price is significantly steep, as the former Finals MVP has not requested a trade, and general manager Brad Stevens would only move him for a king’s ransom.

According to ESPN insider Shams Charania, multiple teams are in talks to acquire Brown. Talking on “Get Up,” he revealed Boston’s asking price.

Celtics want four first-round picks for Jaylen Brown

“The Boston Celtics have been actively engaged in trade conversations around Jaylen Brown, with multiple interested teams,” Charania said. “In some cases, the Celtics have asked for at least four first-round picks for Jaylen Brown.”

Brown still has three years left in his contract, so the team has all the leverage here.

He can’t force his way out of his new team or shut down trades by letting them know that he won’t sign a contract extension, and that’s a factor to consider in his sweepstakes.

Charania also reported that most of his potential suitors are in the Western Conference, with the Portland Trail Blazers well-positioned to be aggressive in their pursuit.

Brown was an MVP candidate this season and showed that he can thrive with a team of his own, and while the Celtics don’t necessarily have to move him, repairing the relationship after shopping him might also be a tall order.
