Exactly three weeks before the start of the 2026 NFL Draft, when the Las Vegas Raiders are anticipated to make Indiana Hoosiers quarterback Fernando Mendoza the No. 1 pick, they may have already found their Week 1 starter.

On Thursday, Mike McCartney, quarterback Kirk Cousins’ agent, shared on social media that his client has signed with the Raiders, giving the organization an established veteran presence as it gets set to welcome Mendoza.

Cousins was released by the Atlanta Falcons earlier this offseason after two seasons. In Las Vegas, he reunites with first-year head coach Klint Kubiak, who coached him for three seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, including 2021 as offensive coordinator.

That season, Cousins threw for 4,221 yards, 33 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Over the past two years in Atlanta, Cousins started 24 games, throwing for 5,229 yards, 28 touchdowns and 21 interceptions.

Kirk Cousins’ signing could be best for likely No. 1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza
