Eagles GM Howie Roseman not slamming door shut on A.J. Brown trade?

While speaking with media members at the scouting combine, Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman seemed to leave the door open for a possible trade of wide receiver A.J. Brown during the offseason.

Roseman was again asked about the Brown situation at the league meetings Sunday, and the executive once again didn’t deny that Brown could be traded at some point this spring or summer.

A.J. Brown is with the Eagles…right now

“I understand that there’s interest in the A.J. Brown story,” Roseman said, per Tim McManus of ESPN. “I, unfortunately, don’t have a home under a rock. But my answer to any question on A.J. Brown is A.J. Brown is a member of the Eagles. From my perspective, anything you ask me about A.J. Brown, I’m going to go right back to that answer. But I understand the interest. I put on TV and I see that there’s interest, but my answer is A.J. Brown is a member of the Philadelphia Eagles.”

A recent update claimed that Brown “most likely” will be traded to a New England Patriots team that has Mike Vrabel serving as its head coach. Vrabel was Brown’s head coach when they were with the Tennessee Titans from 2019 through the 2021 season.

Such a deal may not occur before June 1 for reasons related to the salary cap, and it may not happen at all if the Patriots aren’t willing to send the Eagles a first-round draft pick and a second-round selection in return for Brown.

Are Eagles planning to have A.J. Brown on the roster this September?

The Eagles adding receivers Marquise “Hollywood” Brown and Elijah Moore to the squad understandably caused some to assume that Roseman is planning as if A.J. Brown won’t be with the club this coming fall. Roseman seemed to want to pour cold water over such theories on Sunday.

“Roster construction from a macro perspective is going to be based on a vision,” Roseman added. “That vision doesn’t change by one particular player.”

That may be the case, but nothing Roseman said will cause the rumors about Brown’s future to disappear heading into April.
