Shannon Sharpe and Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson got into a fiery exchange during a recent episode of their podcast, “Nightcap.” The two NFL legends have been podcasting together since September 2023, building a reputation for their unmatched dynamic, perfect banter, and unfiltered takes. Things took a serious turn the other night, however, when Johnson clapped back at Sharpe after being called out for canceling plans with their friend.

Shannon Sharpe Calls Out Chad ‘Ochocinco’ Johnson For Canceling Plans With Their Friend On An Episode Of ‘Nightcap’

In the middle of a recent “Nightcap” episode, Sharpe told Johnson that he felt bad for their friend, NBA star “Iso” Joe Johnson, who was sitting courtside at a game by himself.

Sharpe explained that he was disappointed because Johnson was expected to be at the game with him; however, the former Bengals star backed out at the last minute.

As the episode continued, Johnson told Sharpe that he was unable to attend the game because his family had decided to do something for his daughter’s birthday earlier than expected. Seemingly irritated by his peer’s comment, Johnson pulled out his cellphone and said he would call his child’s mother to explain.

“See, there you go,” Sharpe said. “Why you trying to bring someone else into this?” He went on, “See Ocho, there’s no need for discussion. Ocho knows … all his kids’ birthdays. He knows if he’s out of town, he’s gonna contact the mom and say, ‘We need to move this up because I’m going to be out of town.’”

Johnson fired back, explaining that if his child’s mother needed him to move things around for his kids, he would always find a way.

“But Ocho, you had made plans!” Sharpe exclaimed.

The situation shifted when Johnson sat up in his chair and snapped, “Aye, Unc, I don’t give a f-ck about no motherf-cking plans if my child’s birthday is here.”

Sharpe insisted that Johnson should have clarified things with their friend, to which Johnson replied, “I talked to Joe already, what are you talking about?”

“Now y’all done pissed me off about my g-dd-mn child, it’s her birthday!” Johnson fumed.

The explosive exchange lasted for some time before both men moved on, but the unexpected outburst caught the attention of many viewers.

“When a deadbeat tries to give a REAL father advice,” someone wrote online, while another shared, “That’s right, Chad! Active father.”

Tiara Hodge from “Bad Girls Club” season 7 replied, “This is my first time ever seeing him mad. This is how I am when it comes to my kids’ birthdays, too.”

Other users, meanwhile, offered even more clarity for those who might’ve been confused.

“Ocho begged Joe for tickets for weeks,” a netizen posted. “Ocho picks a date. Ocho cancels day of. [Sharpe] trolls him for not handling his business accordingly. Moral of the story, Ocho dropped the ball, but understandably. They’ll be fine.”

Sharpe Previously Made Headlines For Saying He’d Only Give His Daughter $30,000 To Get Married

The backlash to Sharpe’s latest interaction is hardly a shock, given that he previously sparked a social media frenzy by disclosing his daughter’s $30,000 wedding budget.

“Whatever you do after that [is your business],” he said in the clip. “I don’t care what you can have [with $30,000], I ain’t the one getting married. I don’t give a d-mn.”

One user laughed at Sharpe’s comments and said, “He just had to pay sum … [girl] millions,” referring to the former Denver Bronco player’s reported settlement with a 22-year-old woman he had a relationship with, according to The Blast.

In early 2025, Sharpre was named in a $50 million lawsuit filed by Gabrielle Zuniga. Zuniga accused Sharpe of assaulting her on numerous occasions and even released threatening audio recordings that featured a voice that sounded similar to Sharpe’s.

Sharpe settled the lawsuit months later, and while the amount has remained undisclosed, Zuniga shared a Bible verse shortly after the settlement was announced.

The verse read: “You have freed me from the feuds among my people; you have preserved me as the head of nations. The Lord lives — blessed be my rock! God, the rock of my salvation, is exalted. God — he grants me vengeance and casts down people under me. He frees me from my enemies. You exalt me above my adversaries; you rescue me from violent men.”
