How Swift helped Kelce decide to return to Chiefs for 2026

During a Tuesday appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” tight end Travis Kelce ended speculation about his future when he confirmed he will return to the Kansas City Chiefs for the 2026 season.

Kelce also discussed how entertainment superstar Taylor Swift, his fiancée, impacted his decision to run it back with the Chiefs for one more year.

How Travis Kelce sees himself in Taylor Swift

“We share the same love for what we do, and fortunately, we’ve had this desire since we were kids in our selective professions,” Kelce said about Swift, per Nate Taylor of ESPN. “It’s amazing to see her keep going to the table, keep finding new things to write about, keep finding new melodies and, on top of that, still seeing her have that love and joy in what she does.”

As Erin McDowell noted for Business Insider, Swift has set numerous records regarding her successful tours, album streams and number of awards won. As for Kelce, he almost certainly will become a first-ballot Hall of Famer roughly five years after he calls time on his playing career.

One can’t help but wonder if Kelce already knows when he will retire from playing. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and others, Kelce and the Chiefs agreed to a one-year contract worth $12M with a maximum value of $15M on Monday.

Kelce will be 37 years old when that deal expires, and he plans to marry Swift during a ceremony that reportedly will take place this coming June.

Travis Kelce still has “juice” to play thanks to Taylor Swift

“Of course that’s motivating,” Kelce added about having a front-row seat to Swift’s latest professional successes. “That’s motivating for anybody to see, let alone my fiancée, knowing that I’m going through something where I’m trying to figure out exactly what the future holds for me. Something like that definitely motivates me to say, ‘You know what, I’m not done, either.’ I’ve still got some ideas in the back of my mind and still got some juice left to play this game.”

Kelce may no longer be the best pass-catching tight end in the league, but the numbers show he has plenty of “juice” needed to be a key figure for an advertised playoff team. He led the Chiefs for the 2025 regular season with 76 receptions and 851 receiving yards. Kelce and two others ended the campaign with a team-best five touchdown catches.
