The aftermath of ex-Prince Andrew‘s ties to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein has garnered an interesting reaction from the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

Boris Johnson, a British politician and writer, recently weighed in on Andrew Mountbatten Windsor‘s recent arrest on suspicion of misconduct in public office. The crime stemmed from his connection with Epstein following the release of concerning emails.

Andrew Mountbatten Windsor was stripped of his titles and honors in October 2025, following renewed backlash over his past relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. However, Boris Johnson believes his downfall is the Royal Family’s blessing.

Johnson showed off his writing skills in a new column for The Daily Mail, reflecting on Andrew’s fall from grace and why he believed it benefited the Royal Family. He argued that the former Prince could be seen as “the best thing to have happened to the Royal Family for years” thanks to his Epstein controversy.

Johnson noted that Andrew never had a role in the British monarchy, but with his downfall, he finally served a purpose by making his loved ones shine brighter than before. The former PM backed his claims by citing the massive crowds that greeted the Prince and Princess of Wales this week.

“Is it possible that Andrew’s ghastly pratfalls have actually intensified their enthusiasm?” Johnson mused. He later added that it was because people shuddered at the thought of Andrew and his alleged crimes that the other members of the Royal Family were seen in a new light.

“He has made them more intelligible to us, too, because every family has a black sheep or two,” Johnson wrote. “By the sheer scale of his disgrace, he has paradoxically intensified the dignity of the crown.”

According to Johnson, he first met Andrew years ago while he was still the Mayor of London. He noted that the then-Prince had summoned him and did not appreciate the call for his presence at Buckingham Palace.

Nonetheless, Johnson attended the meeting thanks to his persuasive private secretary and had to endure a “bizarre” encounter with Andrew. He recalled that the then-Prince was full of ideas of how to make London the home of international billionaires, but none of them were feasible.

His second encounter with Andrew occurred during his time as PM, when he was asked to stop the then-Prince from attending an event. Johnson claimed the task fell to him because many feared Andrew would have embarrassed the late Queen and the whole monarchy with his presence.

Johnson’s candid reflections continued, with claims of what led to Andrew’s fall from grace. He believed that “Andrew’s tragedy is that he could never find anything useful or practical to do and so gave in to the appalling temptations that came his way.”

“He will now face a long time of trial, in which things will get worse before they get better,” Johnson wrote. Attorney James J. Sexton echoed similar sentiments to US Weekly, declaring that no one would want to be in the former Prince’s shoes.

Sexton explained that Andrew’s case was challenging to say the least, as the UK appeared to be taking the Epstein charges more seriously than the US. If convicted, the attorney suspected that Andrew could face life in prison due to the “damning pool of evidence” against him.

Days earlier, PEOPLE reported that one of Andrew’s two daughters, Princess Eugenie, was seen looking “happy and at ease” amid her father’s downfall. A source told the outlet that she had been on a coffee run with husband Jack Brooksbank.

Eugenie’s demeanor, per the source, was “not like someone trying to hide.” They noted that she had been laughing and chatting away with her beau, clearly unbothered by Andrew’s situation. The source’s claims matched earlier reports of Eugenie and her older sister, Princess Beatrice’s reactions to their father’s downfall.

The Blast covered the story, reporting that a source claimed the sisters were distancing themselves from the drama. Beatrice’s and Eugenie’s primary focus was their children, with the source stressing that the sisters felt “heartbroken” and betrayed by Andrew’s ties to Epstein.

As Andrew’s situation continues to unfold, new details about his relationship with the Royal Family have emerged. The Blast shared that royal author Russell Myers revealed Prince William had allegedly been trying to kick his uncle out of the family.

Myers claimed the Prince of Wales called from Andrew’s banishment following his disastrous 2019 BBC interview. At the time, Andrew had been queried about his relationship with Epstein and failed to show remorse about his friendship with the late sex offender.

“Refusing to apologize for his relationship and refusing to acknowledge the actual trauma of Epstein victims was an absolute red line for William,” Myers said about the future king’s reaction. The royal author added that William had stressed it was for the monarchy’s benefit to distance itself from Andrew.

Is Andrew Mountbatten Windsor’s downfall really a silver lining for the Royal Family?
