Jelly Roll is once again facing online scrutiny, and this time, it’s an old clip that has people talking. As the country star continues to draw criticism following his faith-filled Grammy speech, a nearly two-minute video from around 2022 has resurfaced on X, reigniting debate over his public persona and temper. The clip shows the singer venting about a shoe store encounter, and threatening to hit a teen employee with what he called the “open hand of the Lord.” The resurfaced footage comes as critics question whether Jelly Roll’s faith-driven messaging matches his past behavior.

The viral post sharing the clip read, “Jelly Roll crashes out at shoe store and says he’s going to hit a teen with the ‘open hand of the Lord.’ Allegedly, Jelly Roll was just made they didn’t serve him instantly and came back to assault a young teen for the disrespect of not knowing ‘who he is.’”

In the video, Jelly Roll appears visibly upset while recounting the interaction. “I’m so f-cking mad right now,” the singer says in the clip, which reportedly dates back to around 2022, while sitting in his car. “I just went to Fleet Feet, a place I’ve bought dozens of pairs of shoes at, and I took my 71-year-old mother there.”

He continued, “I watched the store manager walk up to a young man working the desk and go, ‘Hey, would you help that sweet old lady over there.’ Young man goes (the singer shook his head no), and he points at a guy walking in the door, a younger man. I watched this young f-cking c-ck-sucking, cocky prick just kind of shrug her off. Manager has to, I’m losing my voice I’m so mad just screaming at everybody in the store, the manager is so f-cking, just walks back and grabs another dude.”

But he wasn’t done. “The whole time I’m sitting there thinking, I want to f-cking hit this young man with the open hand of the Lord,” Jelly Roll added. “And I just go through it, I smile because I don’t want my mama to see me mad neither, ya know?”

‘It Would Look Like A Scene Out Of A Movie’

The singer wasn’t finished venting. After finishing in the store, Jelly Roll says he walked his mom outside before walking back into the store.  “I crawled in that f-cking kid’s a-s,” Jelly Roll continued. “And then the manager has the audacity to f-cking tell me, ‘Sir, could y’all talk about this outside. I don’t want my customers hearing.’ And I said, ‘B-tch, you need to worry about the customers on the internet. You don’t need to worry about the three people in here buying a $180 pair of f-cking Hokas hearing it.”

He continued, “And one you wouldn’t have to worry about customers knowing what the f-ck is going on in this store if you taught some f-cking etiquette to your motherf-cking employees,” before adding that “God is with me.”

“I am blessed. I am thankful, and I am grateful, and I am full of gratitude because if I was not, I would march back into that store right now and it would look like a scene out of a motherf-cking movie,” he concluded.

The resurfaced video quickly drew backlash from some social media users. “And another fake Hollywood Christian takes the mask off … over some shoes …” one user wrote as another chimed in, “Sorry to inform you. This isn’t Christianity. This is cosplaying as Christianity. I don’t know why God has to enter your story. Pharisees of our time.”

The controversy comes as Jelly Roll continues to face scrutiny following his speech at the 2026 Grammy Awards.

At the ceremony, Jelly Roll won multiple awards, including Best Country Duo/Group Performance for Amen with Shaboozey and Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song for Hard Fought Hallelujah with Brandon Lake.

During his acceptance speech, Jelly Roll held a small Bible and reflected on his past. “I remember there was a moment in my life, and all I had was a Bible this big and a radio the same size and a 6 by 8 foot cell,” he said. “And I believed that those two things could change my life. I believed that music had the power to change my life, and God had the power to change my life.”

The artist continued, “And I want to tell y’all right now, Jesus is for everybody. Jesus is not known by one political party; Jesus is not owned by any label. Jesus is Jesus, and anybody can have a relationship with him. I love you, lord.”

Reacting to his Grammy speech on X, one person wrote, “Of course, Jelly Roll wouldn’t get on stage and denounce ICE like several of his peers did UNAPOLOGETICALLY. He got on stage and did a fake sermon. And yes, he absolutely is MAGA. F-ck him and that MAGA festival he’s doing.”

Adding fuel to the fire, when asked on the red carpet about his stance on ICE, Jelly Roll replied, “People shouldn’t care to hear my opinion. I’m a dumb redneck.”

Jelly Roll has not yet commented on the resurfaced video making the rounds on social media.
