Multi-award-winning actress Halle Berry has finally confirmed her engagement to singer-songwriter Van Hunt. The couple has been together for five years, and they are ready to take their relationship to the next level.

Last year, Hunt revealed that he had already popped the question to Berry, but the actress seemed hesitant. Now, however, Berry has had a change of heart and is looking forward to the future with Hunt.

Halle Berry Shows Off Her Ring On ‘The Tonight Show’

On February 5, Berry was a guest on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” and even before the interview began, the actress said she wanted to clarify some misinterpretations about her relationship with Hunt.

“Well, there’s some confusion that he asked to marry me, and I said no,” Berry explained to Fallon and the audience. She then continued to say, “No, that’s not the case. I did not say no. We just don’t have a date,” she explained.

“Of course, I said yes, I would marry him,” she exclaimed, which was met by cheers and applause from the audience. Berry then said Hunt “put a little ring on it,” gesturing to her finger with an engagement ring that was, by no means, little.

As Berry explained, people assumed that she had refused Hunt’s proposal last year. In June 2025, the two were guests on “Today with Jenna & Friends,” where Hunt revealed that he had already asked the Oscar-winner to marry him.

“So I put out the proposal, and it’s still on hold, as you can see. It’s just out there floating. You know, maybe you can encourage her,” the singer said, which garnered a laugh from Berry. The actress didn’t say that she said no, and instead explained her reason for not rushing into marriage.

“Well, I’ve been married three times. Van has been married once, and so no, we don’t feel like we have to get married to validate our love in any way. We don’t,” she said. That explanation might have been the reason why people assumed she said no to the proposal.

How Did Halle Berry Meet Van Hunt?

The 59-year-old actress met Hunt during the pandemic in 2020. Hunt’s brother knew the actress, and he wanted to set them up. Berry said that while she was hesitant at first, she eventually agreed.

Berry and Hunt then became acquainted through text messages and phone calls at first before meeting in person for a date months later, as she told The Cut.

“We were forced to let only our brains connect and discover if we had a connection before our bodies decided to get involved. I’d never done it this way. I fell in love with his mind, his conversation,” Berry explained, as reported by People.

In 2021, the couple made their relationship red-carpet official when they attended the Academy Awards together.

Berry’s past relationships have been heavily documented in the media, which was the reason why she took a break from doing interviews for a decade, as previously reported by The Blast.

She wed her first husband, David Justice, in 1993, and they divorced four years later. In 2001, Berry married Eric Benét, but the union didn’t last, and they separated two years later. Berry married her third husband, Olivier Martinez, in 2013, and she gave birth to their son, Maceo-Robert, that same year. They were divorced two years later.

Berry also has a daughter, Nahla Ariela, born in 2008, with Gabriel Aubry, whom she dated from 2006 to 2010.

Throughout the years, Berry has gushed about her relationship with Hunt, often calling him her “person.” In February 2025, the actress said, “I manifested him,” adding that she knew what she didn’t want from a man based on her failed relationships.

“What was my perfect partner? What would he be like, feel like? What walk of life would he have come from? Who would he be? How would he treat me? I got very granular with it, and then he showed up,” she said, adding that Hunt was the “perfect match” for her.

The admiration is mutual, as Hunt has also publicly praised Berry, describing her as his “muse,” adding that being with the actress has improved “every aspect” of his life.
